Ipod classic

The ipod classic is a thing of great beauty and simple design.

The simple shape and over all look of thing is a sight to behold. From a distance you can recognise it is an ipod product. It is easy to hold in one’s hand and use it with one hand.

The designers seemed to have worked long and hard on the external design of this product and it shows by that fact that they havnt changed it in years.

Shame they ruin it all with that stupid, annoying, scratchtastic, shiney piece of shit backing. WHY WHY WHY?! What is the point of that? To catch out people returning the item saying that they dont want it and saying they havnt used it? PAH. I like to keep my items in mint condition as long as possible. But with an ipod its near impossible, unless you never take it out of the box! The Mac book doesnt have that backing, nor does any other apple products! Not even the new ipod nanos and minis! But why this one? Steve Jobs you are a strange man.

Another useless feature on the ipod is the “Clicker” function. You know the sound your ipod makes when you turn the wheel? No..? Thats because you turned it off as soon as you get the bloody thing! Its an annoying sound and wastes power. I do not want to hear a stupid clicking sound as i go through my music thank you. Please get rid of it.
Speaking of uselessness (I keep making words up as a go) Is the world clock settings. I dont use my ipod to tell me the time. i have many of gizmos and gadets to tell me that thank you. Do i really care what time it is in Hong Kong while listening to Steve Vai? NO! I bloody dont! Who would? My phone can do that for me and usually i only want to know the time of the country i am in there and then.
Many of the games on the ipod are pointless. Apart from break out. That is pretty neat. The wheel makes for a new game play peripheral. Maybe if i got peggle on it i would use it for more than music. “Music Quiz” is a strange but cool game. I would like it if i ordered and sorted my music out correctly. Sadly this is not the case so this game is never played. Any other game on this device is pointless and not worth it.

On a some what related note. WHY THE HELL HAVE PEOPLE STOPPED MAKING MP3 PLAYERS 30 50GB Big? You can go from 8GB to 120GB. WHAT IS THIS?! I dont need that much space. I could put a movie on it sure, but i dont want to strain my eyes on its tiny screen! Im sure there are some MP3 players lurking out there in the deepest corners of the market that are about 40GB big, but i couldnt find them.

My overall rating of this piece of kit is, its good, some pointless features, but it does the job. Shame about the price tag, but its an apple product.

Ideas.

I recently had to send off for another Birth Certificate to prove that i am who i say i am. I have a smaller version but OH NO! They don’t accept that (Even though everyone else does).

So wandering up to Sheffield City hall i go in and ask for a new one. £9? Not a bad deal for a piece of paper in this economy. Anyway, get there, ask for one, tell them im not from here but Norwich. “No can’t do that sir” Is the response i get. “What? Why?” “Because its not in our county sir.” It turns out that i have to get it from the town hall where i was born! Why can’t they just email it? Or request it from them? Bah i said while taking a request form.

This brings me onto my main point. Why cant all places that the public use have those little boxes where people can write down ideas, that could improve the service of the place and then put them in. Of course you’d get some good ones and some bad ones but if you gave it half a chance, im sure you’d get some really amazing ideas!

Sleepy

Gah, its harder to get used to waking up at 7am than i thought. Im just glad its only 9 – 5. I dont think i could handle it.

Anyway, a saying ive been hearing ALL THE TIME recently is “9 through 5″. This confused me quite a bit. Until i realised they are saying “9 till 5″ or whatever. Some strange Yorkshire saying that ive never heard before fun stuff!

Anyway, today i got to listen to phone calls and how experianced people do it in a call centre. We had Welsh old people, Crying Scottish people and old people asking if they should take their door off for a big fridge that they where getting. All sorts of people. Most of them quite happy to wait while we got them information. But it all looked quite easy, have to use a million and 12 systems but im sure i’ll get the hang of it all.

Second day of being a working man.

So after my second day of boredem (I mean work) i have pretty much gotten used to the getting up at 7am.

All is going well so far it seems. Ive learnt quite a bit, made some new friends and managed to get my graduation off. So all is well in the land of Sheffield.

I should also be returning home on the 19th of this month maybe and also the 2nd of july to see folks that i do miss dearly.

Game Demo’s

I recently played the new Alien Breed Demo by Team 17. (Those guys that pretty much only made worms for 10 years).

This new game is actually a re make of a very old and popular game they made when they first started out. However, this isnt the first re make they have done. They also re made another game (Whos title escapes me now) for the iphone.

Using the unreal engine they made a 3rd person, top down, shooter. From what i could see on the demo it lacked a certain finished quality to it. I dont know if that was because it was the demo and the finished game wont look as choppy. But it didnt look right to me.

As for the controls, they where ok apart from where they placed the run function. You have the standard WASD controls and Left Shift is for running. This is a pretty petty point to bring up but it annoyed me greatly. Took me ages to be able to run and use all the movement keys at once.

Gameplay wise, meh to be honest. Nothing new or special. In the demo stuff wouldn’t stop exploding, which made it quite hard to figure out what exactly i was doing. On one part of the level, i was lead into a room and suddenly a count down timer appeared. I had missed the explination of why there was a timer in my screen because something near by had exploded in my face. So for 30 seconds i was running around like a headless chicken trying to figure out what to do! It turns out i didnt have to do anything. It was a timer for when the power would kick back on.

You know when you finish a game demo? A little screen will flash up and say “Oh you finished the demo. Did you like it? Do you want to buy it now?” Well Alien breed has these, every 2 seconds after a certain point. Which is about half way through the demo you get them non stop. LET ME PLAY THE BLOODY GAME FIRST! I got so annoyed at this since it broke up the gameplay too much that i left it.

So there you have it. Alien Breed and pretty MEH game. Pick up something like Torchlight or go back to Diablo.

Tour of my new work place.

Today i hopped onto the Tram and needed to Nunnary Sqaure (That’s actually what its called!) and took a short walk to my new place of work.

A never nice, modern looking building right next to the police headquarters (Or something) So i felt rather safe. Air Con throughout the place, Countries flags where hanging about the place in honour of the world cup coming up. Overall a very nice place to work in i suppose.

All the people i talked to where nice (Well it is Sheffield). Got talking to one of the other new employess who was also rather nice, couldn’t really understand what he was saying half the time however. Never the less we had a good time.

Now just have to get some stuff sorted and i shall be working there on Monday!

Sheffield.

So i’ve been living here nearly a week and everything looks like its going fine.

A few days before i was set to leave my student house in Bradford i was scared about moving out, having to grow up, standing on my own two feet.

I think i’ve cheated with the last one, since i’m living with my sister and her boyfriend until i can afford (Be arsed) to move out to my own place.

So now that the job problem is sorted for 6 months (Hopefully it’ll become perm) i can get on with other things.

I’m going to start trainning as a Cub Scout leader with the help of my sister and Alex (Her boyfriend) since they run a local scout group. Which just happens to be behind our garden. Then the next thing on my list is to learn how to drive one of those horseless carts. Sounds fun, but the people on English roads scare me greatly. (Going to avoid Bradford at all costs.) Then work on my portfolio. I dont want to man a phone all my life do I.

I’m quite scared of Yorkshire.

Recently in the news there have been stories of 2 mass murders in and around the area of Yorkshire of which i now live.
First up is the crossbow Cannibal.
News Story
This man killed people only 10 minutes away from where i used to live in Bradford. He was caught about 2 weeks back while i was still there.

The second man was a Cab driver who shot 12 people in the lake district.
New Story

These cases both happened within the space of about 3 weeks. This is quite scary coming from a place like Norfolk where the worst things we had was one or 2 stabbings. (We had that prostitute murderer but that was Suffolk). My point is that it doesnt happen very often in Norfolk’s bubble.

I think i might need bars on my windows…

Job hunting.

Only took me about 3 weeks. I now have a job.

Time to write a novel or whatever adults do now days.

Traveling

Lately i’ve been re-reading one of Bill Bryson’s many books on the subject of traveling.

Not the best time in the world to inspire me to be honest, but neither the less it has.

I once started a little scrap book of plans, timetables,flights, places to visit for America. I recently dug that out of a dusty box and started to add more to it. So as soon as i get a job i may just open another bank account and start saving, to go trekking around the USA for a month or 2!
